Do I need a laminate finish for food or beverage labels?

We recommend it. A gloss or matte laminate protects food and beverage labels from moisture, condensation, spills and everyday handling.

Laminate for food and beverage labels

Food and beverage labels often have to handle more than a dry shelf. Bottles get cold, jars get wiped down, and packaging can be exposed to condensation, moisture or product residue.

Why laminate

A laminate adds a protective film over the print. It keeps the label looking good and stops the design from breaking down when it gets wet or is handled a lot.

Varnish or laminate?

A varnish gives some surface protection, but it doesn't create the same waterproof barrier as a laminate. For packaging exposed to moisture, we usually recommend gloss laminate or matte laminate. Read more in What's the difference between varnish and laminate?
