Meet Tyler Pate
"For me, The Creative Pain is about removing the stigma around struggle and embracing it as an essential, transformative part of growth."
Tyler Pate: So creative, it hurts!
Look, we might be biased, but Tyler Pate, aka @thecreativepain, is something of a Genius. The amount of creativity, quirkiness, and good spirit gathered in this one person is borderline superhuman. Luckily for us, he is also an avid sticker lover, which means we get to join in on his creative escapades on a regular basis.
We took the opportunity to chat with Tyler about everything from his creative journey, the daily struggle of always wanting to perform, to why a space cowboy robot might be the peak of human artistic achievement.

Tyler Pate, the artist behind The Creative Pain, has been part of the StickerApp universe for almost a decade. When we dug up his very first order from 2016, even he was surprised. “It’s wild to think how long ago that was,” he laughed, “I’ve made a lot of stickers since then.”
Back then, The Creative Pain wasn’t a brand, not even close. It was a late night creative experiment, a tiny series he worked on after hours, more about curiosity than strategy. He explored ideas, played with illustration styles, and slowly, without forcing it, something started to form. Over time, those experiments developed into a recognizable visual identity, then a brand, then a platform for creative honesty, growth, and community. “It started purely for fun, and it has been exciting to watch it grow into what it is today,” he said.
The Unspoken Creative Burnout
What makes The Creative Pain resonate with so many is the personal story behind it. Tyler created it as a way to understand what it really means to be an artist and to name the messy parts that often go unspoken: burnout, creative block, self doubt, and the highs and lows that shape every creator’s journey. As he connected with other designers and illustrators, he realized just how universal those feelings were.

“The creative process is challenging. You won’t always have the breakthrough ideas when you want them,” Tyler explained. “But when you show up, even on the days when it isn’t your best work, you give yourself something to build from, and that is how growth happens.”
He cares deeply about helping creatives navigate this industry with more awareness and healthier habits. Mental health, sustainable work practices, and honest conversations sit at the heart of The Creative Pain. Passion projects, he says, are often where inspiration and momentum come back to life. That mindset not only changed his career, but led to some of his favorite collaborations with brands and studios.
“For me, The Creative Pain is about removing the stigma around struggle and embracing it as a transformative part of growth.”
Celebrating Milestones and growth
Throughout this journey, Tyler has experienced several milestone moments that confirmed he was on the right path. Being invited to speak at conferences and workshops stands out as especially surreal. Sharing his process with others, giving back to the creative community, and helping the next wave of artists has become one of the most meaningful parts of his career. Some of his closest friends are fellow creatives he met along the way, a circle of talent and inspiration that keeps him motivated and grounded.

“At the end of the day, I’m just excited,” he said. “Every project is a new challenge, a new puzzle, another chance to sharpen my craft.”
His style falls somewhere between illustration and graphic design, a mix that lets him play with perspective, shape, and storytelling. Most pieces start in Illustrator before moving into Photoshop, where he adds texture, lighting, and the playful visual metaphors that define The Creative Pain. Food, quirky characters, and pop-influenced humor are recurring guests in his work, always reflecting the emotional rollercoaster of making things.
The Beauty of Stickers
Stickers have been part of his brand from the beginning. He hands them out at events, leaves them around town, and keeps a rotating collection of new designs on deck. “They’re such a fun, approachable way to share your art,” he said. Plus, they make him an absolute hero in the eyes of his niece and nephew.
We’ve collaborated with Tyler on lots of StickerApp projects over the years, but one stands out as his personal favorite. The Q2 header card from this year captured everything he loves, from the retro sci-fi vibe to the colors and textures. “A space cowboy robot, are you kidding? That was a dream,” he said. Seeing the print in person was the moment it all clicked. “I’m really proud of that one, especially knowing it’s completely vector.”

Perseverance and Future Goals
As for advice to emerging creatives, Tyler keeps it simple: find the part of the process you love and sink into it. Build passion projects that show what you can do and, more importantly, how much fun you can have doing it. “That’s where the real growth happens,” he said, and honestly, it shows.
Looking ahead, he has a heartfelt goal on the horizon. He wants to return to his small hometown in South Carolina and paint a series of murals, ideally with students from his old elementary school joining in. “That would have blown my mind as a kid,” he said. “It feels like the perfect way to give back to the place I’m from.”
The Creative Pain continues to evolve, but at its core, it remains exactly what it was in the beginning, a creative spark, a visual diary, and a reminder that growth, connection, and community often begin in the tough moments. And sometimes, the best way to share that message is still with a sticker.
